Fournier Street, Spitalfields

Patrick Baty advised on the decoration of this Georgian building

Over the years I have been employed on various projects in Fournier Street, Spitalfields. The old Market Café at No 5 is an example of a building that now displays paint colours of the 18th century. A number of technical issues were also resolved.

The cafe was frequented by the artists Gilbert & George* during the 1970s and 80s.

The excellent Classic Cafes site tells us that:

Clyde Armstrong took it over in 1947 and had hardly touched it in all the time he was there. Gilbert and George, at one point, helped run the business and served customers as trade from the surrounding markets crumbled. “It was like Rules,” claimed Gilbert, “only much better and cheaper.”

Good Morning Patrick
Can you give me the name of the paint used in the studio room at 5 Fournier St please, it’s a lovely muddy matt?
Thanks
Kenneth

Hi
I love the colour of the market cafe above, so you know what the paint used is?

Thank you and best wishes

I believe that they might have used Dulux Heritage Olive Brown, a colour that we devised for Dulux.
