Cassiobury House was a country house, now demolished, which was in Cassiobury Park, in Watford, England. Originally a Tudor building, dating from 1546 for Sir Richard Morrison and later owned by the Earls of Essex, it was demolished in 1927. The contents and many of the elements of the house were sold and some made their way to the USA. I have been asked to examine a house in Upstate New York that was apparently built with a number of these fragments. Many of the rooms displayed carvings by Grinling Gibbons. The main staircase is now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
I am a volunteer researcher at Watford Museum and stumbled on your site where you mentioned being asked to examine a house that may have items from Cassiobury House.
We would be very interested to hear if you found any evidence, please.
