Royal Albert Hall

Patrick Baty carried out paint analysis in the Royal Albert Hall

The Royal Albert Hall is one of the country’s most treasured and distinctive buildings, recognisable all over the world. Since its opening by Queen Victoria in 1871, the world’s leading artists from every kind of performance genre have appeared on its stage.

I was asked to carry out a limited investigation of the painted surfaces in the area around one of the staircases. The aim was to learn as much as possible about the original decorative scheme. Surprisingly some areas in the basement were found to display the original decorative scheme.
