I have been employed on several occasions to advise on the treatment of external surfaces at Ham House. In the early 1990s I carried out trials with copperas washes on the quoins, which had been painted with a sand-textured paint and were looking too bright. A specification for the contractors to carry out the work was produced.

The quoins

I have also produced a specification for the painting of external joinery, including a newly carved garden seat.
